While there is no scientific proof of a direct relationship between learning disabilities and creativity, Robert Rauschenberg’s life and work provide several examples of the positive effect having a learning disability like dyslexia can have on an individual’s ability to develop and implement novel ideas. This article examines Rauschenberg’s education, work, and the relationship between his dyslexia and creativity. It also poses questions that may help to reframe this learning disability in a more positive way.Downloads
