Poetry -- Casualty

David Pfeiffer
Center on Disability Studies
University of Hawaii at Manoa

I am a casualty of
The disability movement.
A casualty from the wounds,
From the suffering
Of endless fighting.

Fighting for the purpose,
Fighting for the people,
Fighting to prevail,
And seldom winning.
And seldom winning.

Now I rest and watch,
Chronicle and explain,
Why we lose
And why we cry
And why I behave this way.
